Sinology major

Introduction

In responding to the various demands of the Information Age, this department seeks to identify a wide range of issues related to China and the countries in its vicinity (Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong) and promote further development in its relationships with other leading institutions through a number of collaborative projects in Sinology. Students, after graduation, are expected to work in government agencies, international commerce, international trading, overseas investment, journalism, tourism and an interpretation section that is closely related to Sinology. They also have opportunities to continue to conduct researches in our graduate programs.

Educational Objective

Students, as the members of the global society, are advised to cultivate their Chinese language proficiency to deal with a variety of global issues. They should have strong interpersonal and communicative skills, not to mention an ability in working with computers in the Information Age. Students, as "China Specialists", receive an intensive language training program through various study-abroad programs. They also learn how to adapt to real life in China through participating in a number of on-the-spot training and field trips. The department offers students opportunities to participate in 'industry-university' collaborative projects and a specialized 4-year curriculum that enables them to collect information, go on field trips, get on-the-spot training, write reports, and finally conduct successful presentations
