Dept. of Coastal and Ocean Engineering

Introduction

The department, with its focus on coastal and ocean development, aims to develop marine infrastructure through the preservation of coastal zones and natural marine environment, as well as enhancing the quality of our lives. In our endeavors to study marine technologies and further conduct researches on the issues related to ocean development and the preservation of coastal zone, the department provides our students with balanced education in development engineering based on various theories and practices. The department further aims to cultivate professionals and oceanographers able to contribute to ocean development. These are the future professionals who will exercise rational judgment, adapt to the fast-changing industry and preserve the natural marine environment.

Educational Objective

Spurred by the continuous governmental efforts in ocean development projects, including coastal zones, the department studies various advanced marine technologies that will better assist us in ushering in a new era of eco-friendly marine development. In addition, the department aims to train specialists in the industry who are able to contribute to the development of marine engineering.

Educational Goals

  1. Students are expected to participate in a ‘university-industry-research' collaborative project at least once during the course. They are also advised to learn the practical skills required in the industry.
  2. Acquiring the ability to carry out independent research projects, students are required to get their research papers published during their MA programs.
  3. Through university-level collaborative projects, students will be encouraged to participate in national and international seminars.
